Description of The Pens

The pens consist of a fixed wooden jetty which protrudes at right angles southwards from the public pier and is accessed with a fob key via a locked gate in a short fence. Each pen has 2 piles at its outer end so that each vessel can be moored with 2 lines to the jetty and a line to each pile. Access to the vessel is via a ladder on the jetty. Getting on board is more difficult than in a floating dock marina since the tidal range here is roughly 3m at times. The bow or stern of the boat then has to be reached from the jetty ladder.

There are 30 pens in all of differing lengths and widths. A number of security cameras are strategically located along the jetty. All penholders may access these to check on their boats.

Pen Conditions

All penholders must have at least third-party insurance for their boats, including $10M public liability and must provide a copy of this when they pay their annual fee. The annual fee is due at the beginning of each financial year and runs from the 1st of July to the 30th of June the following year and must be paid in advance.

Penholders are strongly advised to adhere to the attached mooring standards and recommendations.

Power and water are available on the jetty.

Penholders are required to attend working bees when requested. If a pen holder sells his boat, he is allowed 6 months to purchase another or must relinquish his pen. Access to the jetty is by special key. Additional keys are available for a $40 refundable deposit. All keys and locks are changed periodically for security reasons as there have been several break-ins over the years. Penholders are recommended to lock their boats securely and not leave any desirable items in full view. Unfortunately, unauthorised access can be made by dinghy or under the public pier at low tide.

All work on boats and the jetty must be done in accordance with the Jetty User Group Safe Working Method (SWM) document.

Long-term living aboard is not permitted.
